A former Hobart Hurricanes cricketer has appeared in person in Hobart’s Supreme Court, after his arrest in Darwin this year prior to him boarding a flight back home to Perth.

Aaron William Summers is accused of penetrative sexual abuse of a child or young person and grooming with the intention of exposing a child or young person to indecent material.

The offences allegedly occurred in Hobart on January 16, 2018, when Summers was part of the Hurricanes roster.

Both Mr Summers and his surety appeared in person despite residing in Perth.

Defence counsel Caroline Graves asked Associate Justice Michael Daly on Tuesday whether Mr Summers and his surety could appear via phone or videolink for the next matter.

Crown prosecutor Heather Denton said she “didn’t anticipate” there being any issues with that.

Associate Justice Daly adjourned the matter until March 11.
