More videos emerge of Surfers Paradise roof jumpers

One of the young men caught on film earlier this week doing death-defying leaps between Surfers Paradise apartment complexes is a globally renowned Gold Coast parkour athlete and ex-Australian Ninja Warrior contestant, it can be revealed.

Police say they were called to an address on Orchid Ave at Surfers Paradise about 3.50pm Wednesday to perform a “welfare check” after locals witnessed several young men on the roof of The Sands Apartments leaping onto neighbouring St Tropez Apartments.

Police said they were working towards identifying those involved, but no arrests have been made, nor charges laid.

However, it can be revealed at least one of those involved is ex-Australian Ninja Warrior Dylan Pawson.

Mr Pawson and one other parkour athlete, only able to be identified via Instagram name Daigo, both posted to their Instagram pages in recent days with direct evidence of them performing the death-defying leaps between the two buildings.

Mr Pawson posted a video just after 11am on April 28 performing the stunt, although the video has since been deleted.

It was not immediately clear when the video was captured, although it’s clearly at night.

“Too lazy to grab my shoes out of the car, so I threw the @merrellaustralia slip-ons into sport mode & sent the gap,” he captioned the post. It tagged three other users, including Daigo, who all identify themselves in their bios as parkour athletes.

Daigo posted a video on Wednesday evening of himself jumping between the apartment complexes – performing a front-flip as he does so.

“Did my first roof gap front flip,” he captioned the video.

In a statement provided on Thursday, Queensland Police said while no formal complaint had been made, they were working with a digital intelligence team to identify those involved.

“This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and taken seriously by police. Not only does it place those involved at serious risk of injury or death, it can also cause significant alarm to members of the public,” the statement read.

“Police advise such actions may constitute an offence under Section 14 of the Summary Offences Act 2005 – engaging in an unlawful, unregulated high-risk activity.

“This includes activities such as BASE jumping or climbing on the outside of buildings.

“The maximum penalty is one year’s imprisonment or 20 penalty units. Trespass charges may also apply if individuals unlawfully accessed private property.

“Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information to come forward.”

Mr Pawson was contacted for comment.

Mr Pawson and twin Brodie, who competed in Australian Ninja Warrior 2017 as the ‘Parkour Twins’, were profiled by the Courier-Mail in 2021, where they revealed they fell in love with parkour at 13 after Dylan discovered a video online.
