NT Police continue to investigate the circumstances of a single-vehicle rollover at Stuart Park on Monday night in which an allegedly intoxicated woman crashed the vehicle then fled with a young child in town.

Senior Sergeant Robin Kidney told the NT News police received reports of a rollover at the intersection of the Stuart Highway and Nylander St, Stuart Park, at about 11.30pm Monday.

“The driver of the vehicle and a small child left the scene,” Snr Sgt Kidney said.

“A short time later, police located a 33-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child on McMinn St.

“The two were then conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital to be assessed, where the 33-year old returned a positive breath test and was subsequently apprehended for further blood tests.

“The woman was then released into the care of medical staff with her child at Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment.

“Investigations remain ongoing.”

It remained unclear whether the woman has been charged with any offences.

A picture of the accident’s aftermath, obtained by the NT News, depicts a grey SUV-type vehicle on its roof alongside the guard rail at the intersection.

The driver’s side, front bumper and undercarriage all appear to have sustained significant damage, while a variety of belongings have spilt out the vehicle’s back windows onto the verge.
