St Mary’s sign former East Geelong and Birregurra coach Ben Boseley as new co-coach

St Mary’s has its new co-coach with dual Colac and District league premiership Ben Boseley to lead the club alongside Luke Rayner.

Boseley will replace long-time St Mary’s co-coach Glenn Keast whose successful coaching career – which yielded two premierships at the Saints and more at North Shore during its dynasty — came to an end after their semi-final loss to South Barwon.

He went through an extensive interview process and impressed board members and players alike.

A two-time premiership player with South Barwon, Boseley went on to lead Birregurra to a further tow flags as a coach.

He then returned to his junior club East Geelong in 2021 as coach and spent two years at the Eagles, with Tom Cordner-Maas taking over from him at the end of the 2022 season.

St Mary’s president Jock McMahon said the relaxed Boseley will add something different to their coaching mix.

“Luke and Ben have met two or three times and a little bit different in personalities which is a really good thing, because you don’t want the same thing,” McMahon said.

“It will be a bit of ‘yin and yang’ kind of thing.

“He certainly ticked all the boxes, a really well-spoken young man and really excited to have him.”

Boseley will be one of several new coaches in the GFNL next year along with Geelong great Steve Johnson (Newtown & Chillwell), Brett Henderson (Lara), Ricky Munn (St Albans),

Colac expects to unveil its next coach in the next fortnight, while it is understood North Shore is also on the look out for a new coach.

Leopold is also yet to name a replacement for dual premiership coach Garry Hocking, whose last game brought flag glory on GMHBA Stadium.
