SOME are prominent public figures, others backroom operators who shun the limelight. But they share one thing in common — these 100 men and women are shaping our lives more than anyone else.
Beginning today and continuing through the week, we reveal our state’s ultimate power list — South Australia’s 100 Most Influential People.
Selected by a panel of leaders from the Advertiser newsroom, the criteria for selection to this exclusive list was threefold. The top 100 have either had a significant impact in the past year or are likely to do so in 2018. And importantly, they have all done something differently that had a real impact on our community, beyond just holding a powerful or influential position.
The countdown begins with numbers 100-81, with 20 more revealed each lunchtime until noon on Friday when the top 20 will be unveiled — culminating in the person judged to be the most influential in South Australia.
The list includes business leaders and politicians; people from the world of sport and the arts; educators, scientists, fashion figures, food and wine innovators. More than 40 per cent are women.
Not everyone will agree with our conclusions — and when the full list is revealed we will open a discussion with our readers on where you think we went right or wrong.
No list like this can be conclusive or set in stone. There will be familiar names that failed to make the cut, and there will be unexpected figures with unexpected clout. But we hope this list will get South Australians talking about the people shaping our state’s future.
