Carole Stone donated $1.3m to Zoos SA fundraiser to get three elephants to Monarto Safari Park

A South Australian woman has donated a whopping $1.3m to get three elephants to Adelaide.

The identity of a South Australian resident who donated $1.3m to get three elephants relocated to Monarto Safari Park has been revealed.

Carole Stone originally pledged $1m to the Zoos SA fundraiser before adding another $300,000 to ensure the $2m target was achieved, 7NEWS has reported.

The fundraiser hit its multimillion-dollar goal in just 28 days following Ms Stone’s generous donation.

With more than 4000 donations from all ages and budgets, three Asian elephants will be coming to Monarto Safari Park, including Auckland’s 40-year-old elephant Burma and 33-year-olds Permai and Putra Mas from Perth.

“We’ve done it. They’re coming!” Zoos SA chief executive Elaine Bensted said.

“We are blown away by the support of the elephant and conservation-loving community.

“We’ve had kids handing over their pocket money to some very large donations including the $1m. Every single one of these donations counts and means so much.”

While the goal has been reached, Zoos SA is still calling on people to continue fundraising and taking part in the Run Wild event on October 21.

“While we’ve reached our original goal, I want to assure everyone that all funds raised over this amount will still go to the elephants’ project,” Ms Bensted said.

Any extra money raised now will help Zoos SA to reduce its financing costs for the project and allow us to ensure our efforts are focused on the conservation work we undertake.”
