Adelaide is facing a case of Royal fever with Zara Tindall and husband Mike Tindall hitting the Adelaide 500 track.
The niece of King Charles III, and granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, Zara Tindall was spotted Wednesday taking a hotlap around the racetrack with her rugby-star husband, Mike.
Zara and Mike hit the waves of local radio station FIVEaa on Friday morning and spoke about their trip in Adelaide and in the Adelaide 500.
“I grew up with F1 in the family, with Jackie Stewart, his wife, my godmother. So, we went to a lot of F1 events,” Zara said.
Both Zara and Mike did a hotlap of the Adelaide 500 yesterday, going separately around the track.
“We both go to go in which was a lot of fun. It’s always better to get to see the track from the inside of the car whilst going quite fast. We both like going fast, it was a lot of fun,” Mike said.
The couple also went live on Sunrise on Friday morning from the track.
“Car racing has been in the blood, so it’s great to come here and see the supercars,” she said.
“It’s a great event that everyone has put on.”
Mike said he had not explored Adelaide, but was keen to see the wine regions and try what the locals were sipping.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I really enjoyed going around the track yesterday and getting that insight into the turns and everything, not quite the speed that these boys will be going round, but I’m just a bit of a petrol head,” he said.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing the day, seeing the crowds, it’s great to have it [Adelaide 500] back in Adelaide.”
Zara said she too had not been to SA, but in their four day visit will see the Adelaide 500 on the weekend, dine at the Star of Greece at Willunga and wine tasting.
The couple attended the opening day of VALO Adelaide 500 as part of their four-day South Australian visit.
Photos show Zara in a car and chatting with racing enthusiasts.
It is understood the couple received an invitation to South Australia’s beloved race because of connections with the SA Motorsport Board.
The couple are returning to the track again on Saturday, with Zara expected to attend alone on Sunday.
Zara is a known racing fan having spent her 1999 gap year in Australia working with SEL, a sports, entertainment and talent management agency.
“(They) were the driving force behind V8 Supercars,” Zara said.
“Coming back for the Adelaide 500 brings it full circle and I can’t wait to get among all the action – on and off the track.”
