Albanese announces $400 million joint health commitment with SA govt in marginal seat

Treasurer Stephen Mulligan has handed down his first budget – here’s all you need to know about what’s being spent on what.

HEALTH

– $124m over four years to recruit an additional 278 paramedics and 72 ambulance drivers.

– $400m to upgrade the Flinders Medical Centre.

– $120m over four years to build a new CBD ambulance headquarters.

– $100m over two years from 2025-26 for 50 additional beds at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

– $157.8m over four years to provide an additional 72 mental health beds at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Modbury Hospital, and Noarlunga Hospital.

– $65.4m over four years to recruit additional 101 doctors and 300 nurses across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

JOBS & ECONOMY

– $593m over four years to establish a new hydrogen facility to harness excess renewable energy and produce up to 300 jobs.

– $30m towards a Clean Hydrogen Industrial Hub at Port Bonython.

– $45m over four years to boost interstate and international tourism marketing

– $40m over four years to fund major events.

– $19.6m in 2023-24 to establish Australia’s first dedicated space manufacturing hub.

– $4m over four years to grow female-owned businesses.

MOTORSPORT

– $18m in 2022-23 to run the Adelaide 500 event in December 2022.

– $5.7m over four years to bring back the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

– $2m over four years to support local car clubs across South Australia.

– $1.2m over four years to fund the operations of the Motorsport Board.

EDUCATION

– $2m over two years to fund a Royal Commission into early childhood education & care.

– $117m over five years to support the continued access to at least 15 hours of preschool each week for all children in the year before they start school.

– $208.8m over four years for five new technical colleges.

– $50m over four years to fund mental health support in primary and secondary schools.

– $28.8m over four years to appoint an autism lead teacher in every government primary school.

– $26.6m over two years for local school infrastructure upgrades.

SKILLS

– $8.8m over four years to fund courses where industries has reported shortages.

– $5m in 2023-24 to upgrade Mount Gambier TAFE SA campus.

– $12.7m over four years to fund the return of high demand courses offered at TAFE SA in the care industries.

– $1m in 2022-23 to establish a university merger commission.

– $1.6m over four years for tourism industry council to provide capability training.

ARTS & LIVE MUSIC

– $8m over four years to support the future of the Adelaide Fringe.

– $3.3m over two years in grants to support live music in small venues and larger scale events and festivals.

– $500,000 in 2022-23 to return live music to the Royal Adelaide Show.

– $2m over four years to support the Adelaide Film Festival become an annual event.

HOUSING

– $177.5m over four years to build 400 new public homes.

– $10.4m over four years to provide homelessness support.

– 3 per cent low deposit home loan for first home buyers.

COST OF LIVING

– $39.3m in 2022-23 to double the cost of living concession amount per eligible household.

– $5.2 m over four years to provide free public transport for eligible seniors on the Adelaide metropolitan system.

– $24m over two years for a $100 materials and services charge subsidy for government school parents, caregivers, and independent students.

– $1.8m over four years to continue the mandatory Fuel Price Transparency Scheme.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES

– $128.9m over five years to meet the cost of caring for children and young people in care.

– $16m over four years to provide support for multicultural events and initiatives.

– $2m over four years for victim support services.

– $1m over three years to establish northern and southern domestic violence prevention and recovery hubs.

LAW AND ORDER

-$8.8m over four years to address matters arising from Operation Ironside.

– $3.1m over three years to provide tougher penalties for those that exploit and sexually abuse children.

– $1.2m over four years to reinstate funding in Port Augusta to improve community safety.

– $800,000 over four years to fund the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

– $14.1m over four years to provide 12 new MFS fire trucks.

– $2.3m over four years to establish a SES unit at Gawler.

– $2m in 2022-23 to replace fire towers with new technologies.

– $2m over four years to reinstate the Regional Capability Community Fund.

COMMUNITY & SPORTS

– $82.4m over four years to rebuild and operate the Adelaide Aquatic Centre.

– $68.1m over four years to fund a range of local community infrastructure projects.

– $10m in grants over four years for ther administration of sport.

– $1m in 2022-23 to upgrade the O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp.

ENVIRONMENT

– $12.7m over three years to upgrade the Mt Bold Dam.

– $3.3m over two years for community wastewater management.

– $3m over four years to the Friends of Parks groups to assist with nature restoration activities.

– $1m over four years to the Conservation Council of South Australia.

INFRASTRUCTURE

– $7.83bn over four years on roads.

– $400m over five years to upgrade Marion Road between Anzac Highway and Cross Road.

– $120m over two years to fund an on-off ramp from Southern Expressway at Majors Road.

– $125m over two years for the full duplication of Main South Road between Seaford and Sellicks Beach, grade spereation and road alignment at ALdinga Beach Road and Aldinga Road, and overtaking lanes between Myponga and Cape Jervis.

– $20m over two years for betterment works on the state’s outback road network.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

– $55.1m over four years to construct and operate the Port Rail Spur from the Outer Harbor line.

– $29.4m over four years to establish a new dedicated express service fleet and depot to Mount Barker and the Adelaide Hills.

– $10m over two years to optimise the automated protection system on the Seaford rail line and minimise traffic delay.

– $2m in 2023-24 to upgrade Noarlunga station.

REGIONS

– $127m over four years to begin construction on a new Mount Barker Hospital (total project cost $220m.

– $3.4m over three years to support four additional drug and alcohol rehabilitation beds in Port Augusta and a further $4.6m over four years for two dedicated drug and alcohol detox beds in Mount Gambier Hospital.

– $5m in 2023-24 to upgrade Mount Gambier TAFE SA facilities and equipment for the reintroduction of courses where there are identified shortages in the region.

– $12m over four years to upgrade Port Pirie Hospital’s emergency department.
