A young woman has died after the car she was driving left the road and hit a tree on Kangaroo Island.
The Findon woman, 21, was behind the wheel of a Daihatsu sedan that had been travelling south on Birchmore Rd at MacGillivray, when it crashed into a tree at 2.10pm on Monday.
The woman died at the scene while a passenger – a 23-year-old Findon man – was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Birchmore Rd remains closed to all traffic between East West One Highway and Rowland Hill Highway and police ask motorists to avoid the area.
The woman’s death brings the number of lives lost on SA roads this year to 84, compared to 74 at the same time last year.
