KARLIE Pearce-Stevenson’s father, Scott Povey, and brother, Luke Povey, have written a touching public tribute to their girls.

The message, in the classifieds section of the NT News, is titled “Karlie and Khandals everyday …” and provides a heartbreaking insight into the family’s pain.

Too distraught to otherwise speak publicly, the family has remained silent over the deaths of Karlie and Khandalyce, but the written message is deeply moving.

“The sun doesn’t shine as bright as it did but the night is now lit with a few more stars,” the tribute says.

“No more looking to see is that girl is you as we saw someone else in a crowd.

“No more waiting to hear.

“No more waiting to see you show up smiling again as usual.

“No more laughter giggles and pranks. No more late nights just talking with the music playing.”

“Our hearts have a thousand cuts and we will remain your strength.

“Give Khandals a hug for me and Luke sweetie. Love forever Dad and Luke.”

The tribute also uses sentiments similar to those of the Cat Stevens song, Wild World.

“It’s hard to get by with just a smile girl.”

“I’ll always remember you as a child.”

A school friend of Karlie, meanwhile, yesterday described the latest developments in the double murder investigation as “shocking and heartbreaking”.

The friend’s statement was posted anonymously on the In memory of Khandalyce Kiara Pearce and Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson Facebook page.

It was posted after SA police revealed the young mother’s phone had been used to contact her family after she was killed to give the impression she was still alive.

The friend posted: “This tragic story has left so many in shock and disarray, especially for the family and friends of these two sweet girls.

“It’s numbing to know that all this time you weren’t safe and well like so many of us thought, and it’s hard to see the updates on this case and to see the pictures of you and your little mini-me.

“No one in the world deserves to meet such a tragic set of events, but especially not you and your innocent baby girl.

“You both had so much to give, so many memories to have together and so many achievements in both of your lives to look forward to.”
