FAKE fashion items are usually a sin, but everyone feels warm and fuzzy about faux fur.
Made from synthetic fibres, it has been paraded on the runway by designer Stella McCartney, who really walks the cruelty-free talk by never using animal products in her collections which include vegan-friendly footwear.
A favourite of many celebrities including Charlize Theron and Pamela Anderson, faux fur is in again this winter, with chain stores like Country Road and Forever New selling vests and jackets.
Adelaide designer Nayia La Scala said she started her label Designer Duchess to offer a cruelty-free alternative to real fur.
“It keeps you just as warm, it lasts just as well — you can be fashion forward with it without compromising on style or comfort,” she said.
“It’s plastic basically. Faux fur is a forever piece — it’s always in fashion.”
Stylist Cimon Vozzo agreed, saying faux fur was a must-have in every woman’s wardrobe.
Jackets, like the Designer Duchess one worn by Chelsea, from Powell Models, whose hair and make-up was by Hair Artistique, were surprisingly versatile, she said.
“If you want to look a bit more daring, pair a faux fur jacket with an evening gown or with jeans and a pair of Converse shoes for everyday,” she said.
