Woman killed, passenger injured in horror crash at Belvidere

A woman has died and a man is in hospital after a car crash near Strathalbyn amid fears it maybe suspicious.

Major Crime detectives reportedly spent Sunday reviewing the Belvidere scene, near Strathalbyn, 62km southeast of Adelaide.

Emergency services were called to Langhorne Creek Rd, 2km from Milang Rd, just after 1.15am on Sunday after reports of a car crashing into a tree.

The female driver, 58, of Strathalbyn, died at the scene.

Her male passenger, 27, also from Strathalbyn, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with minor injuries.

Major Crash officers raised “serious concerns” about the crash, Nine News reported.

Major Crime detectives then reviewed the scene.

Asked if it was suspicious, a police spokeswoman said on Sunday night: “The matter remains under investigation.”

The woman’s death is the 63rd life lost on SA roads compared to 92 at the same time last year.

It follows the death of a man following a crash at Humbug Scrub on Saturday morning.

At about 6am on Saturday, police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Kersbrook Road and Kelly Hill Road after a car was found crashed into a paddock.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man from Elizabeth East, died at the scene.
