Woman hit by road train in horror crash at Wudinna

A woman has been flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital after she was hit by a road train in the state’s northwest on Saturday night.

A woman has been flown to hospital after she was hit by a road train in the state’s northwest on Saturday night.

Around 8pm police were called to the intersection of the Eyre Highway and Rashleigh Rd in the township of Wudinna after reports a pedestrian had been struck by a road train.

The truck did not stop at the scene and continued west on Eyre Highway out of Wudinna.

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old woman from the far west of the state, was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

The Eyre Highway was closed for several hours but has since been reopened.

A second truck, also heading west, drove past the scene of the crash a short time later.

Police are appealing for truck drivers to come forward, or any further witnesses with information that may assist, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile early Sunday morning a drink driver was caught by police after crashing his car.

Around 4.45am police were called to Grenfell St after a white SUV crashed into traffic lights at the intersection of Gawler Place.

When police arrived the driver, a 40-year-old Magill man, submitted a breath test and allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.181 – more than three times the legal limit.

He was reported for driving without due car and drink driving, lost his licence on the spot for 12 months and his car was towed from the scene and impounded.

He will be summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrate Court at a later date.
