A 38-year-old woman has died in a house fire at Aldinga Beach.
Emergency services were called to the Barracoota Crescent home about 3.25pm on Friday after smoke was seen coming from its roof.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found the body of the woman inside.
It is understood a dog was pulled out of the house alive.
Next-door neighbour Jason Freer, 51, said he was alerted to the fire by an unusual crackling noise.
“I thought it was raining at first, so I walked outside and noticed all this smoke, there was fire coming from the neighbours’ roof,” Mr Freer said.
“I saw two of the people living there run inside to get the two dogs and the cat … The cat tried to go back inside three times.”
Neighbour Lorry Thomas, 69, said she arrived home after the blaze was under control.
“I often see the woman from the house, probably in her late 20s or early 30s, walking their dog up and down the street with a young man, “she said.
“They were very private – kept to themselves.”
Another neighbour, Lazar, 40, who did not want his surname published, said the residents were new to the neighbourhood.
“They just moved in about 6 months ago, the daughter was always playing in the front yard,” he said.
“This sort of thing doesn’t happen often here … you see it on the news, somewhere else, it’s unbelievable.”
Fire cause officers are investigating.
