Woman fined after car collides the Cockle Train at Port Elliot

A woman and her children have luckily escaped serious harm after their car collided with the Cockle Train at Port Elliot this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Basham Beach Rd around 12:30pm where the car was found at a level crossing.
The occupants of the vehicle – a mother, 43, and two children, 11 and 13, were shaken but suffered no serious injuries.
The woman will be fined for failing to give way to the train.
There were no reported injuries to the 115 people on board the historic steam train, which is hugely popular during school holidays.
It comes after three people were hit by trains at Adelaide level crossings in the past two months, one fatally.
SteamRanger Heritage Railway president Peter Charlson said Cockle Train services had been suspended for the rest of the day.
“Parts of the locomotive were damaged and will require repairs,” he said.
All affected passengers were offered a bus service as a substitute mode of transport.
Cockle Train services are expected to be back up and running tomorrow.
It’s the second incident involving the Cockle Train in a matter of months.
In December 2021, a motorist was hit by the Cockle Train at a level crossing in Victor Harbor.
The car was pushed six metres down the track and the driver escaped with only minor injuries.
That site is known for train and car collisions.
