Police have appealed for two skateboarders to come forward after a horror crash in which a 27-year-old Lockleys woman lost her life.

Major Crash investigators believe the witnesses can help with an investigation into the crash at Tatachilla, south of Adelaide, about 7.15pm on Saturday

Emergency services rushed to the scene where the woman’s Toyota sedan crashed into a tree before catching alight on Tatachilla Rd.

Witnesses said they saw two female skateboarders, aged between 16 and 18, prior to the crash.

One skateboarder was described to be wearing a green long-sleeved top, and the other a white long-sleeved top.

The pair also seen after the crash, 1.5km east of the scene, standing on the corner of Tatachilla Rd and Caffrey Rd.

The skateboarders are encouraged to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A cross with “RIP Rachael” has been left at the scene since the accident by good Samaritans who attempted to save the woman’s life.

The Lockleys woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Deb Errington, one of the first people on the scene of the crash, took to Facebook to praise the bravery of Wayne Amee who smashed the window in an attempt to save the victim.

“Wayne jumped out of the car with no regard for his own safety and ran to it knowing there was someone trapped inside,” she wrote.

“He and the other bystander who assisted were simply not strong enough to open any doors which had all been impacted from hitting the tree.”

Ms Errington described the moment she knew it was too late and that there was nothing more they could do.

“I screamed out to Wayne it’s too late,” she wrote.

“Wayne finally realised he couldn’t do anything more … he looked at me with that sense of helplessness.”

Ms Errington said Mr Amee said “I’m so sorry” as he realised there was nothing more he could do.

“You don’t have anything to say sorry for … to all those who stopped to render assistance you are all heroes,” she wrote.

Ms Errington concluded the post sharing her appreciation for others who helped at the scene.

“Wayne Amee, Ashleigh Griffiths and Mia Amee as hard as this road is going to be you are not alone.”

Sharee Sterlz, also first on the scene, commented on a Facebook post to share her disbelief.

“It was horrific …, we all felt helpless and we are all shook up,” she wrote.

“We don’t know the circumstances yet, but it is so very sad and I applaud our amazing emergency services in how they respond and deal with these horrible situations.”

Ms Sterlz also wrote that here thoughts and love are with Rachael’s family.

Tatachilla Rd was closed between Main South Rd and California Rd while major crash investigators attended the scene but the road has since reopened.

Debris under a burnt tree remains at the site of the horror crash.

Tatachilla local Andrew Press lives just metres from the scene.

“I feel a little uneasy knowing someone died right out the front,” Mr Press, 53, said.

He was not home at the time of the fatal crash but said “it would have made a hell of a bang”.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

The woman’s death is the 40th life lost on South Australian roads compared to 18 at the same time last year.
