Only a handful of Adelaide petrol stations continue to resist a price spike of 50c/L for unleaded petrol this afternoon.

The majors began to spike prices on Wednesday from as low as $1.24/L to $1.73/L, a tactic which has spread to all but three northern suburbs outlets.

While about 20 stations were offering for a little as $1.25/L mid morning Thursday, these had almost all risen to at least $1.35/L by lunch time.

Bargains can still be had at Costco Kilburn; $1.35.7/L, Liberty at Blair Athol; $1.36/L and Mobil at Prospect $1.36.9/L.

The MotorMouth app reveals all other prices are now above $1.40/L with the highest $1.73/L. Motorists can use the app to find the exact prices at 30 stations each week, free of charge.

RAA spokesman Mark Borlace said motorists from today should be only topping up at the highest prices, and holding out for as long as they could for prices to drop again in a week.
