Adelaide is set to swelter again this week but there is relief from the unrelenting heat — and it can be found just an hour away.
While Adelaide is expected to reach 39C on Monday, before shooting up to 41C on Tuesday and then dropping minutely to 40C on Wednesday — temperatures in Victor Harbor will be about 10 degrees cooler over the same period.
The popular tourist town is heading for a sunny 30C on Monday and will heat up to 33C on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Victor Harbor will hit 28C — 12C cooler that in Adelaide.
A total fire ban has been declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges on Monday.
Lisa Bailey, of Adelaide, and her family, including daughters Elyssa, 12, Sienna, 10, and Aviva, 8, are cooling down at Port Elliot during the heatwave.
“We (come) down quite often to the Fleurieu Peninsula,” she said.
“(My daughters) love the ocean (and) they love swimming.”
But spare a thought for people in the Far North.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting Oodnadatta will reach a toasty 47C on Monday before remaining steady at 46C on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the CFS says a scrub fire that broke out at Montacute in the Adelaide Hills on the weekend will continue to pose a risk to public safety over the coming days.
The blaze was reported to authorities just after 11pm on Saturday night.
The fire was burning in steep terrain, creating access issues for firefighters. CFS crews managed to halt the spread of the fire but not contain it.
Firefighters continued to extinguish hot spots and strengthen containment lines on Sunday.
Water bombers were brought in to extinguish hot spots in challenging terrain. The fire is expected to burn for a number of days.
A separate grassfire at Naracoorte, near Pistol Club and Haynes Edwards roads, destroyed two sheds, a caravan and a vehicle on Sunday.
