The 27-year-old would later be charged with the murder of Ms Bell, who was beaten to death on the floor of her Millicent home in 2022.
Mr Edwards initially pleaded not guilty to murder but later changed his plea.
A week into his murder trial in the Supreme Court in Mount Gambier, he pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter over Ms Bell’s death.
Earlier, an investigative officer who interviewed Mr Edwards the morning after Ms Bell’s death told the court Mr Edwards was visibly affected by drugs.
Footage aired on 9 News showed an officer asking Mr Edwards if he was okay.
Mr Edwards responds with “am I ok?”
He later says: “this is real, isn’t it?” F****” and lays his head on the table.
Mr Edwards’ defence lawyer Steven Millsteed KC previously argued in court that Mr Edwards was acting in self-defence because a “drug-induced psychosis” had caused him to believe Ms Bell intended to kill him that night.
Ms Bell’s family fear the guilty plea to manslaughter could allow Mr Edwards to get off “with a slap on the wrist”.
