An Adelaide wedding has gone viral after a video of the bridal party entering the reception and dancing in sync to a Lizzie McGuire hit song was released on TikTok.
The video has gained 6.2 million views and almost 500,000 likes in just a week, with commenters describing the performance as ‘iconic’.
Mimi and Kristian Belperio, of Broadview, married last weekend and had their reception at JDF Receptions.
“One of my bridesmaids Jade got married in September and I suggested to walk in to Hilary as her bridesmaids but it didn’t happen, so I had to make it come to life for my wedding,” Ms Belperio said.
“That meant I couldn’t be in it, which lead to a major case of fomo (fear of missing out) but also I felt like a proud stage mum.”
The bridesmaids entered the reception with a fun choreographed dance to Hilary Duff’s 2003 song ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’, which was hugely popular on Disney’s The Lizzie McGuire movie.
All were wearing matching white dresses and a microphone headpiece, something the character Lizzie McGuire was known for.
“We all watched the Lizzie McGuire movie the night before the wedding in preparation, snuck in a few rehearsals accompanied by mimosas the morning of and then a little more rehearsing in our green room at the reception,” Mrs Belperio said.
“The girls drank a whole bottle of Hennessy before their entrance to settle their nerves and honestly did me so proud. Let’s just say none of us can get the song out of our heads now.”
Mrs Belperio said she “couldn’t believe it” when the video went viral on TikTok.
“I honestly couldn’t believe it but also was not surprised because who doesn’t love Hilary Duff?” she said.
“One of my favourite feelings is nostalgia so to be able to share this performance with our guests and also the world now, it holds a special place in my heart.”
Wedding videographers The Wedding Creators captured the moment, but it was posted to TikTok by one of Ms Belperio’s bridesmaids, Caitlyn.
Sticking to the Disney theme, Ms Belperio is a self-confessed huge Disney fan and she and her new husband have ventured to Japan for their honeymoon to visit Disneyland.
“I am the biggest Disney fan and always have been,” she said.
“On my birthday last year I made Kristian come with me to a Disney night at Lion Arts Factory and it was such a good night just belting out lyrics to all of my favourite Disney shows and movies.”
