Weddings of South Australia: September 15

Ross and Calida Pendock sent up the bat signal ahead of their wedding in Rostrevor — and Gotham’s finest answered. This AMAZING wedding video is a must-watch for, well, everyone.

Batman marries South Aussie couple

At the Sunday Mail, we love celebrating love! Every week we get to see some of the state’s most beautiful weddings. Today, we’re celebrating a very super wedding, a beautiful Hills celebration and a union beside a picturesque lake.

Calida Elliott & Ross Pendock

Married at Marybank, Rostrevor

Ross and Calida’s wedding was super – so super, in fact, they were married by Batman.

The bride arranged for celebrant Alessandro Iannella to dress up as the superhero to officiate at their ceremony at Marybank, a stunning wedding venue in Rostrevor.

“Everyone thinks Batman was Ross’s idea but in fact it was mine,” Calida said.

“Ross didn’t know about Batman for a while but it was too hard to keep secret … you see, I wanted a videographer and Ross didn’t because he thought he would watch it once and that would be it (he’s watched the teaser multiple times). I compromised … I wanted a videographer and so I got him Batman. It was so much easier telling him I had booked Michael (Waxman) at Scarlet Studios when I said, ‘and Batman is going to marry us too!’.”

The couple live in Mildura but chose to marry in South Australia because Ross always wanted a destination wedding.

“We are wedding photographers and have seen all the locations in Mildura and wanted something different,” Calida said. “Adelaide was driving distance and we saw some beautiful venues.”

They chose to get married on August 22. The date was significant because the couple became an item on August 20 in 2014, and got engaged two years later on August 21.

Their reception was held at Krystal Function Centre.

“I styled the whole wedding by myself with a lot of DIY,” the bride said.

“I hired large LED light-up letters for the reception from Jumping Jelly Beanz. I also hired a couple of DIY items from Rustic Kreations in Mildura.”

The couple’s daughter, Ivy-Rose Pendock, was flower girl.

Maid of honour was Paige Innes and bridesmaids were Nina Lambert and Scarlett Elliott.

Best man was Luke Pendock and groomsmen were Stephen Pendock and Jamie Blefari.

Calida is the daughter of Sally McInerney and Craig Elliott.

Ross is the son of Stephen and Susanne Pendock.

Andrea Brunt & Michael Dimuccio

Married at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Stirling

A SPECTACULAR floral and candle arrangement set the scene for Michael’s proposal to Andrea.

He decided to pop the question at home on a Wednesday evening in August 2018 – but his romantic plan nearly went amiss, with the bride-to-be stopping to chat with neighbours outside.

“The proposal was a real surprise,” Andrea said.

“We gave ourselves 12 months to plan the wedding but quickly fell in love with Mount Lofty House (for the reception), which was the first venue we visited.”

The couple tied the knot at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church before celebrating their nuptials with 90 guests at the popular Crafers venue.

“We loved having … Adelaide String Duo for our tiny church service in the Adelaide Hills,” the couple said.

For Michael, watching Andrea walk down the aisle was one of his favourite moments, while Andrea loved finishing their first dance at the reception and “having everyone immediately flood the dance floor”.

“It was just beautiful to have all the people we care about celebrating together,” the couple said.

The couple chose to seat guests at round tables “to make it easier for people to chat and mingle”. They also treated loved ones to a photo booth and dessert table.

Maid of honour was Renee Palmer and bridesmaids were Kayla Morgan and Sinead Guilfoyle. Best man was Dylan Smith and groomsmen were Tom Hennessey and Angus Lemmon. The bride’s niece and nephew, Elodie and Flynn Palmer, were flower girl and pageboy.

Andrea is the daughter of Karen and Morgan Brunt, of Hillier. Michael is the son of Maryann and John Dimuccio, of Gawler Belt.

Rachel Meyer & Lewis Johnston

Married at Glen Ewin Estate, Houghton

LOVE stories of a bygone era often got their start in old dance halls.

These days, couples still meet on nights out, but social media also has a big role to play – just ask Rachel and Lewis, whose romance began six years ago.

“We met out and he added me on Facebook and we just got chatting from there,” Rachel said.

Fast-forward to December 2017 and the couple got engaged during a cruise of the Sydney Harbour. Rachel said she was completely surprised by the grand gesture.

“I had no idea,” she said, adding Lewis had her engagement ring made.

“It’s amazing. It’s exactly what I would have wanted.”

The happy couple chose to host both ceremony and reception at Glen Ewin Estate

in Houghton.

They were married beside the venue’s picturesque lake, where the bride walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

Afterwards, the newlyweds celebrated their nuptials with 130 loved ones in the Pulpshed. They shared a first dance as husband and wife to Wherever You Will Go by The Calling.

“We had a band (The B-Sharps) so everyone was on the dance floor,’’ Rachel said.

“Everyone was really enjoying themselves.”

Maid of honour was Madison Quigley and bridesmaids were Hayley Sutton and Taylor Falting. Best man was Larry Ieraci and groomsmen were Steven Fitzgerald and

Conor Johnston.

Rachel is the daughter of Julie and Steve Meyer, of Hallett Cove. Lewis is the son of Maryanne and David Johnston, of Port Pirie.
