ADELAIDE has escaped forecasted heavy rain on Saturday afternoon as a band moved in from the south — three days after storms caused widespread damage across the Hills.

Earlier, weather bureau senior forecaster Vince Rowlands said most of metropolitan Adelaide was expecting up to 15mm of rain on Saturday afternoon and into the evening as a rainband rolled in from Kangaroo Island and the Yorke and Eyre peninsulas.

He said the band was heading to the Adelaide Hills, which could experience up to 25mm of rainfall.

“The rain band has been quite slow moving — it’s relatively steady,” he said.

Mr Rowlands said the storm had already dropped 14mm on Stenhouse Bay on the Yorke Peninsula, 12mm on Kingscote at Kangaroo Island and 10mm at Cleve on the Eyre Peninsula.

The rainfall comes less than three days after heavy storms caused havoc in the Hills and many other part of Adelaide, including flooding in the lower Onkaparinga River.

The deluge caused damage to at least 80 homes across metropolitan Adelaide

Waterfall Gully, which was among the suburbs to face the brunt of the flooding, remained a soggy, muddy mess yesterday, and the clean-up for many residents is likely to take weeks.
