The future of surfing has been unveiled in Germany, and the owners behind South Australia’s first wave pool have been treated to a sneak preview.

Construction is set to commence on the The Break Surf & Stay wave pool at Aldinga next year, which will be able to produce waves up to 2.1 metres high.

But in Munich, a project with the same “endless wave” technology was unveiled earlier this week, and 9 News Adelaide reported the Aldinga site owners had travelled overseas to get a taste of what their own park would look like once completed.

After testing the waters themselves, one of the owners declared it “pretty sick” while another commented on the variety of waves it produced.

Silver Sand Beach Club co-founder Nick Stock told 9 News that South Australia’s own park would “attract all kinds of people” once completed and promote surfing.

“That’s what’s great about it – I think it’s going to be huge,” he said.

The $100m development was cleared by Onkaparinga Council in May, and it will also include a surf academy, villa accommodation and a restaurant.

Construction is set to begin in early 2025.
