An Eastern Brown snake found making itself at home in a washing machine at a home in the Barossa

A snake catcher in the Barossa has captured the moment he retrieved an eastern brown snake from a washing machine.

Dan Marshall is a snake catcher for Barossa Reptile Service and posted to Facebook on January 12 a video of him prying the snake out of a washing machine.

“An Eastern Brown in a washing machine, that’s a new one for me!” he wrote.

“I just saw the tail sneak up into the machine when I arrived, 45 minutes laster we had a washing machine in bits and an angry snake from being gently poked, prodded and coerced out.

“A difficult one, but rewarding. The customers house is snake free and the snake is safe back in the bush!”

Mr Marshall said getting a snake out of a washing machine is up there with one of the weirdest places he’s been asked to retrieve one from.

“Just after the washing machine I was called to get a snake out from under a microwave,” he said.

“This year has been big for finding snakes in places they shouldn’t be.

“There wasn’t that many at all last year but this year there has been a string of weird ones, it’s just something weird that happens sometimes.”

Shockingly Mr Marshall isn’t scared on the job, and said he has the “best job in the world”.

Mr Marshall regularly posts his successful snake catchings, including one on January 2 of him holding up a snake in a bathroom.

“Probably not the surprise you want in your bathroom!” he wrote.

Mr Marshall said in a post that snakes seek shelter during the hottest parts of the day and gives the advice of having good door seals, not leaving doors open as well as keeping dog water bowls up off the ground as high as possible and away from doors to reduce chances of snakes entering homes.

“If you do have a snake in the house, close the door to the room and place a rolled up towel at the bottom of the door and give us a call!” he wrote.

On January 8 Mr Marshall posted another video of him catching a snake that was seeking some shade in a shed.

“An eastern brown in great condition trying to find somewhere cool in the heat today,”
