Video: Wakeboarding through flooded vines at Lake Breeze Wines, Langhorne Creek

A FLOODED Fleurieu Peninsula vineyard and friends with a wakeboard, a buggy and a camera drone have combined to make an amazing video. And this is not the only people who have surfed the floods.

Wakeboarding in the vines

A FLOODED Fleurieu Peninsula vineyard and a group of friends with a wakeboard, a buggy and a camera drone have combined to make an amazing video that has gone viral on the internet.

Driving a buggy, Langhorne Creek local Luke Cooper, 22, towed friend Ryland Willis, 21, on a wakeboard, alongside rows of flooded vines at Lake Breeze Wines on the weekend.

Another friend, Josh Cranwell, had bought a drone the week before and decided to use it for the first time to capture the 500m wakeboarding feat.

Mr Cooper said he and his family had been stuck inside for days after an intense low pressure system hit the state last Wednesday afternoon, causing heavy rain, gale-force winds and a statewide blackout.

He said by Saturday the weather had cleared enough for family and friends to get together and make the most of the storm aftermath.

“We didn’t have power so we decided to go outside and hit the water,” he said.

He said the water along the vines was deep enough that the board didn’t hit the bottom and Mr Willis enjoyed the novelty.

“There was so much water,” Mr Cooper said.

“We’re just hoping for some sunshine to dry out the winery before the Handpicked Festival in November.”

But Mr Cooper said he was shocked at the response the video had received since being posted on the Handpicked Festival Facebook page on Sunday night. It has been viewed more than 15,000 times.

“We thought it would just be for family and friends. We didn’t think it would go quite that crazy,” he said.

Torrens River kayakers

The group has a boat and generally wakeboard at Aldinga Beach.

According to the weather bureau, about 53mm of rain fell at nearby Strathalbyn between Wednesday and Saturday.

The Handpicked Festival will be held at Lake Breeze Wines on November 12.

Some daredevils also took advantage of the strong current on River Torrens as they kayaked down the stream over the weekend.

Stephen Koerber, who took the video at Athelstone, said the river was “like a cesspool” after heavy rains.
