New renders and a flythrough have been released for the Adelaide Central Market redevelopment, revealing a detailed look inside the $400m project as it opened expressions of interest for new tenants.
Up to 53 new tenancies will be available on the ground floor after construction is completed on the 39-storey Market Square expansion in early 2026.
Expressions of interest are now open for prospective tenants of the expansion.
The design and layout of the development has been inspired by the existing market and the expansion will double its footprint, with the east-west pedestrian access to Victoria Square reinstated.
New areas include a north-south laneway connection between Grote and Gouger streets.
The grand market hall at the heart of the expansion will host pop-ups, activities and events.
When construction is completed, the Central Market will have up to 123 retail tenancies, more than 1000 car parks and a projected annual visitor count of 10 million, up 20 per cent on its current visitation.
Adelaide Central Market Authority general manager Fabienne Reilly said the SA icon is embarking on an “exciting new era”.
“The Adelaide Central Market is embarking on an exciting new era that ensures it remains relevant for current and future generations while continuing to celebrate its rich history,” Ms Reilly said.
“We’re looking for passionate food and beverage businesses that share our commitment to quality, innovation, customer service and community spirit.”
New tenancies will comprise a combination of traditional market-style stalls, such as those which already exist in the Central Market, kiosks suitable for food and perimeter tenancies offering more traditional dining, retail and hospitality.
The Market Square expansion is a joint venture between ICD and the City of Adelaide which will include a Treehouse Hotel with 248 rooms, 234 boutique apartments and nine floors of commercial office space, supermarket and retail.
Expressions of interest for tenancies at the new development close on August 31.
