Eyre Peninsula locals shared warnings of shark sightings just hours before a young surfer was reportedly attacked near Streaky Bay, with one video capturing a creature just metres from shore.
Caitlin Bennie posted footage of a large shark at Sceale Bay, 30km south of Streaky Bay, on January 2.

The video was shared just hours before a surfer disappeared off Westall, at an area known as Granites, 17km away.
In another post to the West Coast SA Shark Alert page, a local warned of a “large great white sighted acting aggressively near granites”.
A large-scale search is now underway for the 28-year-old Port Lincoln surfer, who police say is feared mauled to death.
The surfer’s body is yet to be found, but an SA Police spokeswoman told FIVEAA radio that a man on a jet ski had retrieved his surfboard.
“It doesn’t look good,” she told the radio station.
The air, land and water search resumed early on Friday morning with resources from Police, SES and local volunteers assisting.
The beach remains shut to the public.
