Victor Harbor Road is South Australia’s scariest road according to a new survey about what gets under our skin behind the wheel.
The report by Continental Tyres surveyed more than 2000 Australians as part of a new campaign encouraging motorists to check their tyre pressure and quality
Dangerous drivers are the biggest road fear, with 81 per cent of respondents flagging it as a concern, followed by bad road quality (43 per cent), wet roads (35 per cent) and traffic congestion (33 per cent).
The findings revealed that the top ten scariest roads according to South Australian motorists are:
• Victor Harbor Rd (41%)
• Main North Rd (28%)
• Pt Wakefield Highway (22%)
• Sturt Highway (20%)
• Princes Highway (16%)
• August Highway (12%)
• Dukes Highway (14%)
• Stuart Highway (14%)
• Riddoch Highway (9%)
• Eyre Highway (10%)
Continental Tyres Australia managing director Mitchell Golledge said it was “saddening to see” the research showed drivers sought to avoid these routes where possible.
“While regularly checking your tyres is crucial, investing in a set of high-quality tyres will also go a long way to helping you feel secure while driving,” Mr Golledge said.
It comes after a tragic Easter long weekend on Australian roads that claimed the lives of 23 people.
On Sunday, a three-car crash near Penola in the state’s South-East killed 62-year-old driver Trevor Schutz and his wife Catherine, 54.
Shane Leistra, 51, was charged with a slew of dangerous driving offences after their deaths and appeared in Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
