Vicious dog attack on elderly woman in Clarence Park prompts warning

People living in Adelaide’s inner south have been warned to stay inside after two dogs savagely attacked a 78-year-old woman. The dogs are still at large.

Residents of in Adelaide’s inner south have been warned to stay indoors after two dogs attacked a 78-year-old woman.

Clarence Park local Jo Howski took to Facebook to warn George Street residents to stay away from the “American bull terrier-looking dogs”, which were still at large and not yet identified by Unley council.

She said she and her husband saved a 78-year-old woman who was savagely attacked at 5.45pm on Tuesday – the attack witnessed by the family as they arrived home with their three children.

“My youngest is seven and if it had been a few minutes earlier it could have been us,’’ Ms Howski said.

“We had just gone inside and heard a lot of dog barking, the most horrible human screaming and man’s voice yelling at the dogs.

“We went outside and the lady was leaning over our front fence, a large chunk of flesh had been bitten out of her and she had puncture wounds on her legs and hands.

“We bandaged her up, it was freezing cold and the ambulance was delayed because of the ramping situation.’’

Ms Howski said other residents told her they had complained to Unley Council about being menaced by the dogs.

Residents thought they had tracked the animals to a church carpark nearby, where they were with a man sleeping rough.

An Unley Council spokesman said these animals had been eliminated from the investigation.

“No dogs were found to be wandering at large when our inspectors investigated and no dogs have been seized at this point,’’ he said.

“Some dogs which have been suspected of the attack were with their owner and restrained when this was reported.”
