Van slams into Stobie pole causing power outages in Marden

A 31-year-old driver was lucky to escape serious injury after crashing into a Stobie pole at Marden, bringing down power lines and causing outages in the area.

A man has escaped unscathed after his van ploughed into a Stobie pole at Marden in what appears to have been a freak accident..

Emergency services rushed to Lower Portrush Road around 3.55am on Sunday morning after reports of crash at Marden.

The 31-year-old driver from West Beach knocked over a Stobie pole but police said he was not injured and returned a negative alcohol and drug test.

The vehicle incident affected traffic for several hours and also caused a power outage in the area.

As of 11.39am Sunday, 47 customers in the area had been affected by the power outage.

SA Power has estimated the power will be restored around 5.30pm today.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash, and is urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Earlier this week, a 25-year-old woman sustained life threatening injuries after crashing into a Stobie pole at Christies Beach, on Wednesday morning.

While another 29-year-old driver from Whyalla Norrie, escaped injury after crashing into several poles around 5.30am on Wednesday at Lincoln Hwy at Cowel.

Following the crash, more than 900 customers in surrounding areas lost electricity.

SA Power Network were able to fully restore power by 10am on Thursday.
