Unley Primary School has issued a warning to parents to keep their kids safe after receiving multiple reports of a stranger approaching students.

An email was sent to parents by the school, informing them of several instances in which children had been approached by a stranger, including some who attempted to lure children into their cars.

“I’m writing to emphasise the importance of children’s safety and to seek your support in helping your child develop strategies to maintain their personal safety,” principal Amy Reid said.

“Recently, we have been informed of some instances in the local area where children have been approached by an unfamiliar individual.

“In some cases, these individuals have attempted to encourage children to get into a vehicle.

“One incident on Wattle Street, involving children from Unley Primary School.”

The school assured “that the parents of the children involved have been contacted, all critical incident protocols have been followed, and a police report has been made.”

The school is urging the school community to be on alert for any suspicious behaviour.

UPS also urged parents to encourage their children to speak to a trusted adult if they notice anything suspicious.

“Please encourage your child to talk to a trusted adult immediately if they notice anyone behaving unusually near the school grounds or on their way to and from school,” Ms Reid said.

Since the alleged incidents, the school has reviewed supervision in the schoolyard during recess and lunchtimes as well as enforcing a buddy-system for students leaving the classroom during lesson times.

A spokesperson for SAPOL said that police had received reports from the school of a man acting suspiciously on Wattle Street on 15 August.

“Students reported it to the school however the man had left, and no criminal offences were revealed,” they said.

However there was no information provided about the man having a vehicle.
