Uber now permanently available in Barossa Valley ahead of Gather Round

Locals and visitors will now be able to use a ride-share service in a popular destination – and not just for the AFL’s big weekend.

Uber SA expands to Barossa Valley region ahead of Gather Round

Uber is expanding its footprint to the Barossa Valley, with the ridesharing service becoming permanently available in the wine region from Thursday, just ahead of the AFL’s Gather Round.

It comes after the state government removed the requirement for drivers to have separate accreditation to operate outside of metro Adelaide.

Managing Director for Uber in Australia and New Zealand, Emma Foley, said since the reform, Uber has received consistent feedback from customers and drivers calling for broader access across the state.

“We’ve heard the calls from communities across South Australia asking for greater access to ridesharing, and are excited to officially expand our footprint to Barossa, Adelaide Plains and Light region,” she said.

“Rideshare options support both locals and visitors alike with more flexible, reliable and convenient transport options, and we’re pleased to have arrived just in time for one of the state’s biggest tourism events.”

Gather Round will be played in Adelaide, Norwood and the Barossa Valley from April 10-13.

Two games will be played at Barossa Park in Lyndoch, with North Melbourne v the Gold Coast on Saturday April 12, and Richmond v Fremantle on Sunday April 13.

Uber driver Oscar said it was an exciting opportunity for drivers to earn money and give people rides to and from the games, and other attractions.

“I’m excited to start offering trips to places like the Barossa Valley - whether it’s getting people to their favourite wineries or to the footy without the hassle of driving.

“And for drivers like me, it means more flexibility and more earning opportunities.”

“With Gather Round bringing in thousands of footy fans and tourists, the demand for safe, reliable transport is huge.

“Many riders have been asking when Uber would expand to regional South Australia, so it’s great to see it finally happening.”
