TWO accountants filling senior managerial roles at the Royal Adelaide Hospital will be paid a combined $220,000 for 10 weeks’ work.

Health Minister Stephen Wade said the costs were on top of the $1.98 million the Government was paying KordaMentha to audit the Central Adelaide Local Health Network.

It comes just one day after he told Parliament his understanding was it was included in the existing contract.

Opposition health spokesman Chris Picton said it was astounding that the KordaMentha employees would be paid $629,000 each if they were employed for a full year – more than $200,000 more than Premier Steven Marshall.

“The minister is clearly struggling to catch up with how much taxpayers’ money he is handing over to liquidators KordaMentha,” he said.

“Today he was forced to correct the record that two KordaMentha staff put in as managers in our public hospitals have been paid $242,000 (including GST) for just 10 weeks’ work.”

Mr Wade said the decisions to appoint the staffers, to the RAH’s critical care and surgical areas, were made by SA Health management.

The appointments to the vacant roles were made to get an understanding of the skills needed to fill them appropriately.

He said Labor was trying to “rewrite history” after leaving a “financial and organisational mess at the RAH”.
