A Tumby Bay farmer has fought off a deadly eastern brown snake, filming as it slithered onto his truck’s windscreen and door handle while he was trapped in the cabin.
Cattle farmer Ben McNamara first tried turning on the windscreen wipers in a failed bid to flick away the snake from his truck.
He then grabbed the snake by the tail and flipped it off.
“His head was looking me right in the face and his tongue,” he told 7News Adelaide.
“I wasn’t expecting a snake when you get out of a vehicle, looking at you at head height, so that was the scary bit.”
Mr McNamara said he went to open the truck door and the snake “was just there hissing at me”.
“So I quickly shut the door as quick as I opened it. I thought: ‘Bugger this’, so I grabbed my phone and that’s when I videoed it,” he said.
“And then as it opened the door, he just wanted to keep poking his head around the corner. As I get out I didn’t want to get bitten on the head.
“He was just fascinated and climbing all over the windscreen and just wanted to look at me. And every time I tried to get the door he’d just stick his head around.
“ I was like, well, you serious mate. I wanna go empty my truck. I’ve got my tennis I have to get to.”
