Bulls have been found roaming in backyards and wandering the streets of Burra, in SA’s north, after a cattle truck crashed into a home on Monday morning.
The truck driver, a 43-year-old Clare Valley man whose legs were trapped by the steering wheel, has since been freed and brought to Burra Hospital with minor injuries.
The truck, which was carrying a load of cattle, tipped on its side, slid into the Ludgvan St home, then took out the veranda.
Locals described it as a “notorious corner”, saying it wasn’t the first time the veranda had to be rebuilt due to similar crashes.
Many young bulls escaped during the smash and began roaming the streets.
Some of the injured cattle had to be euthanised.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and keep an eye out for straying cattle, which may be distressed or injured.
The local community are also advised to keep pets indoors.
People were inside the home when the cattle truck crashed into their veranda, but no one inside was injured.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours while the scene is cleared and a tow truck organised for the heavy vehicle.
Police are calling on the public to report any sighting on the police assistance line 131 444.
