A terrifying close call where a truck carrying live sheep pulls into oncoming traffic to avoid a 4WD slowing for a bike - nearly ploughing into an approaching vehicle - has been caught on dashcam.
Video of the incident, which occurred on Main South Rd between Myponga and Yankalilla on Sunday morning, shows the truck crossing double-lines over the bridge as it tries to avoid a 4WD, which had come to a sudden stop after coming up behind a peddle trike.
The truck breaks sharply, stopping just in front of the oncoming car driving at more than 80km/h.
The near-miss was about 400m from a serious crash on Monday on the same road.
Police said multiple cars and a truck had collided at Wattle Flat, on Main South Rd, between Yankalilla and Myponga about 12.15pm.
Ugly Dog Transport owner/manager Luke Bruce told The Advertiser the driver had contacted him “straight after it happened”.
“I was sent the footage this morning and had a meeting with drivers reminding them about the hazards on the road,” Mr Bruce said.
He said the footage showed that even if the 4WD wasn’t in front of the truck, his driver would have had “no option but to cross the double white lines to avoid the peddle trike on the narrow bridge”.
“The truck was trying to avoid the white 4WD that had to suddenly stop after coming across the peddle bike on a narrow bridge, through a windy road,” Mr Bruce said.
“(On) that section of the road there are a lot of narrow bridges, overhanging trees and tight corners and the sooner this road get un upgrade the better.”
He said there were no livestock was injured.
SAPOL said police from the Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit were aware of the footage and were investigating the truck driver’s actions.
They said the driver filming the incident had avoided a serious crash with their “evasive action”.
