FIVE cars have driven on to the O-Bahn tracks in the past six months, sparking long delays and an investigation over signage.

Transport Department figures show there were five incidents including one near miss since April.

There were no recorded incidents for 2010 or 2011.

The incidents caused delays of more than nine hours in total.

In the most recent incident, a white Mazda was driven on to the track from the Park Tce entry, just off Hackney Rd, and made it to Royston Park before it fell off the track and became stuck on Friday, August 31.

Other incidents included:

MONDAY, April 23: Car enters track north of the Klemzig interchange, track closed for two hours.

FRIDAY, May 25: Car enters track track at Klemzig interchange, track closed for 2.5 hours

THURSDAY, June 21: Details not provided, track closed for four minutes

WEDNESDAY, June 27: Car enters Tea Tree Plaza interchange, track not closed

SATURDAY, August 25: Details not provided, track closed for 1.5 hours

FRIDAY, August 31: Car enters track from the Park Tce entry, track closed for three hours.

A Transport Department spokeswoman said the incidents were being investigated.

Entrances and signage would also be examined to determine if they played a factor, she said.

"Each incident on O-Bahn and indeed normal bus route services warrant investigation," she said in an emailed statement.

"(The Department) undertakes investigations after each incident, in addition to regular track inspections and sign maintenance."

The spokeswoman would not comment on how much it cost to remove the cars, but said it was charged to the driver.
