Adelaide City Council will meet with West End traders and the state government about revellers peeing and pooing all over the party strip.
Traders on Adelaide’s Hindley St say they’re fed up with cleaning up urine and faeces from their doorsteps due to the lack of public toilets in city’s west.
Shocking CCTV footage obtained by 7News has shown several Adelaide partygoers urinating in an alcove adjacent to Hindley St.
An Adelaide City Council spokeman said Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith and council executive officers would meet with West End Traders and ministers this week to discuss the problem.
One video shows four women pulling down their pants and urinating in the area at 10pm.
Now, traders along the strip, who are fed up with having to clean the mess, are now imploring the Adelaide City Council to take action.
City of Adelaide executive officer Clare Mockler said the “Hindley St public toilets have been closed at night for safety and security,” following a consultation with SA Police.
“We are working with the state government, SAPOL and stakeholders to develop a permanent solution but in the meantime are directing the community to use the nearby public toilets at Light Square/Wauwi,” Ms Mockler said.
“Our staff work hard cleaning and scrubbing Hindley Street and the adjacent lanes and are currently trialling a new cleaning regime with additional cleaning services to improve the service standards for our community and traders.”

Hindley St trader Joseph Pugliese said the problem had forced him to watch his step when he exits his business.
“Sometimes when I come to my back door, I have to stand back and check that no one is urinating on the door – one time I got it on my feet,” he said.
“It’s not just urine, they also do number twos.”
Joe Carbone said the City of Adelaide was ignoring the problem.
“Someone in the council has put their head in the ground like an ostrich and thought maybe the problem will go away, but the problem hasn’t gone away,” he said.
The strip’s only public toilet closes at 5.30pm every day for safety reasons.
West End advocate Tony Tropeano said the council’s attitude towards the city’s night-life strip needed to change.
“Hindley St is the poor cousin of Rundle St and it shouldn’t be,” he said.
“We only see them when we raise issues, over and over and over again.”
