Tour Down Under sprint leg crash on Adelaide’s Rundle Road leaves female spectactor hurt

Up to seven cyclists slammed into the crowd at last night’s sprint leg of the Tour Down Under on the corner of two major city streets.

A female spectator has been injured in a nasty high-speed collision with cyclists during last night’s sprint leg of the Tour Down Under.

Up to seven cyclists became tangled up in the massive collision on the corner of Rundle Road and East Terrace, after Italian rider Andrea Raccagni clipped the inside barrier and slid across the road.

The pack of cyclists then slammed into the crowd, with bikes and bodies flying onto the road.

Dramatic vision from the incident captures the moment of collision, with spectators screaming and bracing moments before disaster.

Several members of the public are thrown to the ground in the horrifying pile up.

A Tour Down Under spokesperson confirmed that the spectator suffered injuries and was taken to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

“We are in contact with the spectator’s family and have offered our support,” they said.

“Our thoughts are with the spectator and their family, as well as the riders impacted by the incident.”

Australian cyclist Sam Welsford, who won the race, said it was a chaotic scene.
“I was pretty close to the barriers,” he told Seven.

“I didn’t hear anything … it was such a high-speed corner.

“I hope everyone is OK.”

Commentators on the broadcast said the cyclists would have hit speeds of up to 50km/h on the sharp turn.
