TORRENS Transit has acquired rival Light City Buses, and will receive a transfer of 370 buses and 700 employees in Adelaide.

The media announcement on Wednesday follow contract signing, which returns to the Torrens Transit network routes which it previously operated between 2005 and 2011.

Torrens Transit is an Australian-owned operator and has foreshadowed no cuts to routes but an investigation of whether the State Government will support links between its three distinct contract areas in Adelaide.

Transit Systems Group CEO Clint Feuerherdt said the company was also investigating increasing frequency of services.

“We are excited to work with the South Australian Government to deliver improved services for the Adelaide community and ensure the moving public can get on with their day in the most time efficient manner possible,“ he said.

Timetables, routes, and bus stops in Adelaide will continue to be regulated by the Government, and all buses and other assets such as depots will remain under the control of Government.

Mr Feuerherdt said all workers from Light City Buses will be offered a position with Torrens Transit and there are no changes for passengers, other than ownership, under the deal which will be finalised next month.
