A planned burn at Para Wirra Conservation Park will be starting at 11am to 8pm this Thursday.

The CFS will be burning 65.3 hectares of the Conservation Park to protect and reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in case of a bush fire event as Australia is expecting the worst fire season in years.

During the prescribed burns there will be traffic restrictions in the area with one lane of the Para Wirra Rd remaining closed throughout the entire duration of the burn.

Additional short term road closures may also be put into place on Para Wirra Rd if the smoke will reduce visibility to unsafe levels.

Meanwhile, drivers on roads north of the burn area including Green Gully Rd, Woodland Rd, Allendale Rd and Goldfields Rd are advised caution as there might be some impact from the smoke.

Some walking trails will also be closed such as the northern section of the Quarry Track and Lady Pearce Circuit Trail.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will stay on site until safe completion.

However, the Para Wirra burns may be subject to cancellation on short notice if the weather conditions change.
