More than 40 new public housing properties from Elizabeth Downs to Morphettville will soon be constructed.
The first 44 contracts have now been signed under a $177 million state government plan to build 400 homes.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said the homes would provide “secure housing for vulnerable South Australians”.
The SA Housing Authority has identified 200 parcels of land, with hopes construction can begin “as soon as possible”.
“All these houses are a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties, with two-bedroom being the most common as single tenant households are a large portion of existing Housing SA tenants and people registered for social housing,” Human Services Minister Nat Cook said.
Opposition social and community housing spokeswoman Michelle Lensink had “huge concerns properties previously allocated for affordable housing have been swiped to help prop up Labor’s poorly costed public housing policy”.
Contracts for another 33 more homes across the state are expect to be signed off on soon.
A further 350 vacant and 3000 tenanted houses also will be upgraded in a maintenance blitz.
