When it came to choosing a public or private school for their son, Clare Pullan said a public school was a no-brainer.
Absolutely nothing was going to stand between Harrison and his beloved mullet – including school.
The nine-year-old from Athelstone is a contender for The Advertiser’s 2024 Mullet Cup competition, which is searching for a youngster rocking the best mullet in the state.
Harrison’s been grown his mullet since he was five, but had a spate of short or shaved haircuts during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown – much to his distaste.
“He’s been growing it ever since, obviously he goes and gets it trimmed, but he doesn’t want to go short,” Ms Pullan said.
“We looked at putting him into a private school earlier this year and when we looked at the policies, one of the policies was that the boys couldn’t have hair that was longer than the collar.”
After a short discussion with Harrison, who was against cutting his hair, Ms Pullan, 42, and her husband Martin, 54, both agreed that the flowing locks could stay.
“We decided to let him stay in the public school he’s in now, rather than disrupting him and make him cut his hair,” she said.
“It’s such a big part of what people think of, when they think of him and talk about him.
“He’s got his amazing mullet, how could you ever think about cutting it off?”
