A 15-year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious crash at Glynde.

The teenage pedestrian was hit by a Holden sedan just before 6pm on Tuesday at the intersection of Payneham Road and Shirley Avenue.

The teenager, from Felixstow, was rushed to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan, a 25-year-old woman from Hectorville, was also taken to Modbury Hospital with minor injuries.

Payneham Road was closed to all west bound traffic for several hours but was reopened just before 10pm as Major Crash investigators examined the scene.

Local resident Dinesh Ratnayake lives along the stretch of road and said he was at home when he heard a “big noise”.

“The boy was lying on the ground and there was blood,” he said.

“There was lots of cars passing and not one stopped. He was there for a couple of minutes.”

Mr Ratnayake, a father-of-two, said he then noticed the driver of the car had pulled over.

“She got out of her car and was crying and asking for help,” he said.

“They worked on him on the road and then they took him away.”

He said the area was “always trouble” because there was no safe way for pedestrians to cross, and there have been other incidents in the past.

“It’s a very dangerous area ... they need to do something,” he said.

“They need to put traffic lights and a crossing in because it’s a very busy road.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dashcam vision, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
