Teen parliament 2024: Zara’s big Hyperloop plan aims to cut travel times around the state

Teen parliament applicant Zara Hower plans to install an Elon Musk idea to drastically reduce travel times. Apply now to be in with a chance to win $10,000.

Future leaders wanted for the opportunity to appear in parliament

The journey from Coober Pedy to Adelaide will only take 45 minutes under Year 11 student Zara Hower’s plan for the state inspired by an Elon Musk innovation.

The 16-year-old Seymour College student is one of the applicants with an idea to radically change the future of South Australia in the lead up to Teen parliament 2024.

Students from Years 10 to 12 are running out of time to submit their ideas relating to a range of topics such as the economy, social issues and state development and be in the running to be one of 10 winners of $10,000.

The March 8 Teen parliament event will see 30 students discuss ideas to improve the state with politicians watching on.

Zara has proposed the state government make a bid to entice Musk to build a Hyperloop in the state, which would see air propulsion tunnels powered by solar panels launch pods at speeds greater than 1000km/h.

“Honestly it would be a long project, like many of those transportation projects are and it would be a big investment obviously, but it could change people’s lives,” the teen said.

“To improve something fully, sometimes it just needs a brand new idea that’s never been thought about properly.”

Zara said the benefit of Teen parliament is that young people can provide “fresh insight” on issues in the state.

“Politicians are amazing but they’re surrounded by some of the same people a lot of the day,” she said.
