A popular sushi restaurant on Grenfell Street has shut its doors, and is the latest in a string of closures amid a hospitality crisis.
On a sign posted to its door, Sushi Train’s Grenfell store last month announced its closure.
“We apologise for the short notice and regret to inform you that we are closing down the Sushi Train Grenfell store on Friday, 31st of May, 2024,” the sign reads.
“We thank you for your support. It has been a pleasure for us to serve you. Please use your Sushi Train loyalty points at our other stores.
“Once again, thank you for your loyalty and we hope to see you again soon.”
It comes after at least 20 business have closed across the city as others, including the city’s popular pub The Austral, faces an uncertain future.
Some businesses across the state have told The Advertiser they have been forced to raise prices on some services and items as they grapple with rising operating costs.
Last month, popular wine bar East End Cellars announced it would be increasing its corkage charge from $20 to $25.
With the double whammy of reduced consumer spending, breakfast burger bar chain Cheffy Chelby owner-operator Michelle Lowe earlier said a small coffee would be have to cost $8 for business to stay profitable. Earlier this year, she announced the closures of her last two restaurant sites.
