Family and friends of a young Adelaide woman seriously injured in a terrifying crash are rallying behind her as she emerges from an induced coma.

Georgina Coventry was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and placed in a medically induced coma to aid in her recovery.

On Monday, friend Flynn Cameron confirmed Ms Coventry had woken from the coma.

In a message posted to fundraising platform GoFundMe, Mr Cameron said his “strongest and most amazing friend” was surrounded by trauma, ophthalmology, neurology, spinal and plastic surgery specialists at Royal Adelaide Hospital.

“Georgina is now awake after being placed into an induced coma and is doing well, but there is a long road of recovery ahead,” he said.

Mr Cameron went on to describe Ms Coventry as a “generous, gorgeous, wonderful, fun loving person”.

“(She) brings love and happiness to any situation and makes everyone smile and laugh,” he wrote.

Ms Coventry’s social media accounts show she is a keen traveller, surfer, snowboarder and coffee enthusiast.

She previously shared images from New Zealand, Central America, Vietnam and Thailand.

She was also captured in a series of photos shared to Facebook on a recent holiday at a snow resort in Japan.

The GoFundMe page has raised more than $7700 of its $5000 goal in less than 24 hours.

Mr Cameron said the money would be used to cover medical costs and to support Ms Coventry’s family in their time of need.

“$3000 dollars will be for accommodation for her family to stay in Adelaide close to Georgina and away from their work,” he explained.

“The rest will go towards ongoing medical costs for Georgina.”
