Dozens of interstate rugby league fans are among the first guests of Adelaide’s newest hotel.
Hundreds of interstate supporters are expected to attend the State of Origin match between New South Wales and Queensland at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
Many are staying at the Crowne Plaza on Frome St, which opens on Monday, while others have booked into the recently-opened Oval Hotel.
Crowne Plaza general manager Sarah Goldfinch said staff were looking forward to finally opening the doors to the 329-room hotel.
“We had to delay the planned opening in March because of the interstate travel restrictions so it is fantastic to finally be welcoming our first guests,” she said.
The hotel takes up 20 floors of a $150m 36-storey tower which has become Adelaide’s tallest building. The remaining 16 floors are privately-owned apartments.
The hotel features an outdoor pool, Japanese-Asian restaurant, bar, gymnasium and lobby designed for business travellers.
Ms Goldfinch said the Crowne Plaza had been designed largely for business travellers, with its main lobby equipped with high-speed broadband and other office facilities.
“Obviously we also are here for South Australians looking for somewhere to stay in the city and tourists coming to the state,” she said.
Oval Hotel general manager Bodelle Francis it was “exciting” for Adelaide to be hosting its first State of Origin.
“We are looking forward to welcoming both locals and interstate guests,” she said.
“Interest has been high, with the majority of our bookings from interstate guests.
“However we still have rooms available for the night.”
