Two people have been arrested over a series of brazen home break-ins across the Adelaide metro area including the home of popular radio host Stacey Lee.

FIVEAA afternoons host and former TV newsreader Lee’s eastern suburbs home was one of five properties broken into a series of offences from March 16 to April 8.

“I’m extremely grateful to police for getting onto this so quickly, especially the team from Adelaide Volume Crime,” she told The Advertiser.

“It was shocking to read the long list of offences allegedly committed by these people.

“It’s clear this crime spree has been ongoing for some time, and has impacted many people in multiple suburbs around Adelaide.”

Police said a home on Northcote St in Kilburn was broken into about 5am on March 16, with a white Hyundai Accent stolen.

It was the first incident in the series police have now arrested two people over, amid ongoing investigations.

The stolen Hyundai was seen leaving the area of Quality Court in Wynn Vale where two cars were broken into and wallets and handbags stolen between Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, March 31.

About 4am the next day, April 1, police said a home on Vulcan Ave in Modbury Heights was broken into and a blue RAV4 stolen.

A day later, the stolen Hyundai Accent was found dumped on Stokes Court in Elizabeth East. But the RAV4 is one of the vehicles believed to have been driven to Lee’s home in the eastern suburbs where one person broke into her home about 3pm on Thursday, April 4.

Police said three suspects were at the property from which Lee estimated tens of thousands of dollars worth of items – including sentimental jewellery and the keys to a white Toyota Yaris – were stolen.

Four days later, police said a man allegedly broke into a home on Clifton St in Maylands about 12.55pm and stole a silver MG hatchback with registration S493CGK.

Police said a suspect in the MG later that day broke into the shed of a property on Stephen Terrace in St Peters, stealing power tools and a bicycle.

The vehicle was found behind a closed gate in the rear yard of a Clifton St home in Maylands about 6.40pm Tuesday, April 9.

Cordons were set-up around the home and a police car blocked the gate.

“Upon becoming aware of police the suspect ran to the MG and drove it through the gate ramming the police car,” police said in a statement.

“The suspect jumped out of the MG and ran, but was quickly chased down and arrested by Eastern District patrols.

“There were no injuries to police.”

A 42-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with endanger life for allegedly ramming the police car, hinder police, multiple aggravated serious criminal trespass, serious criminal trespass, thefts and illegal use of motor vehicles.

He was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old Maylands woman was also found at the Clifton St address and arrested.

She has been charged with a number of offences, including using a credit card stolen from the eastern suburbs break-in.

She was bailed to appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on July 9.

Lee said it was “comforting to hear” people had been arrested over the alleged incidents.

“I hope this news can also be a comfort to the others who were violated and had their belongings stolen too.

“I know I sound like a broken record but please consider boosting your security at home because you do not want this to happen to you – trust me.”
