A 10-year-old boy has described the terrifying moment his classmate was stabbed in the torso, allegedly by another student, at a northern suburbs school on Friday.
“We were all scared, but not screaming because we knew we had to stay calm,” the St Thomas More School student told 7NEWS.
The boy said they were in the classroom where the teacher was calling the roll when “the girl started saying ow and we didn’t know why”.
He went on to say the alleged offender “went to the desk and I think he tried to go for the teacher but luckily the teacher was not harmed. He went after other students and we all just tried to get out immediately”.
A 12-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with assault while the 12-year-old girl was taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with cuts to her torso.
While parents at the Elizabeth Park school praised the actions of the teacher, they have questioned the school’s communication policy, saying that the public knew about the incident before they did. They say they also haven’t been told if the boy, who’ll face Youth Court in October, will be allowed to return to the school.
